Saint Mary's Home of Erie - East and Asbury Ridge Locations
After more than 120 years, Saint Mary's Home of Erie continues its Mission:
Founded by the Sisters of Saint Joseph and operated in the Catholic tradition Saint Mary’s Home of Erie is committed to an environment of loving to care where primarily seniors, their families, staff and volunteers participate in fostering an atmosphere of community.
Saint Mary's Home of Erie, a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania, opened its doors on Sept. 21, 1884.
Saint Mary's has continued evolving to meet the needs of the community, becoming a geriatric hospital in the 1950s, and in later years a nursing facility. In 1991, the Gallagher Center, a freestanding dementia-nursing unit, was added. In 2001, a second facility, Saint Mary's at Asbury Ridge opened.
In 2005, Saint Mary's Home of Erie became a licensed Continuing Care Retirement Community, and is currently expanding its services with the construction of 26 independent-living carriage homes for seniors, The Carriage Homes at Asbury Ridge, located on the campus of Saint Mary’s at Asbury Ridge, 4855 West Ridge Road, Erie, Pennsylvania.
"The development of independent-living homes within a Continuing Care Retirement Community has become a very attractive senior living option," says Sister Phyllis McCracken, Saint Mary's President and CEO. "The Carriage Homes at Asbury Ridge will fulfill the needs of seniors who would prefer an independent lifestyle, as well as priority access to other Saint Mary's Home of Erie services."
Today, under the direction of President/CEO Sister Phyllis McCracken, Saint Mary's offers a full continuum of care. With nearly 450 employees (approximately 260 at Saint Mary's East and 190 at Asbury Ridge) Saint Mary's provides Adult Day Services, Independent, Assisted and Residential Living, Personal Care, Nursing Care, Alzheimer's Nursing Care, Alzheimer's Assisted Living and Respite Care.
Saint Mary's supports the Erie community through various sponsorships including the Alzheimer's Walk; a Senior Informational Minute on Channel 24; a talk show on FM 1400; Sunday Mass from Notre Dame; church and school activities; and participation in local health fairs. Saint Mary's also serves as a clinical site for various healthcare students.
