Funding Opportunities
Annual Giving
Annual gifts from individuals, businesses, service organizations and foundations are the cornerstone of philanthropic support for Saint Mary’s.
Our fiscal year runs January 1 to December 31. Each year our donors and friends receive a letter in the Spring and Fall asking for their annual support. In addition, The Mirror Newsletter contains our donation envelope so that donors can give at a time that is convenient for them.
Donors that give annually can make an impact on an area of interest by designating their gift to one of the following areas:
Area of Greatest Need
Unrestricted gifts enable us to direct funds to the areas of greatest need. Your gift provides the flexibility for Saint Mary’s to allocate funds for its immediate priorities.
Benevolent Care & Unfunded Cost of Care
The Board of Trustees has identified The Benevolent Care Fund as its top priority for funding.
Most seniors who reside in our Residential Living areas do not qualify for any government support whatsoever. The need for benevolent care is increasing rapidly—in 2009 we provided nearly $700,000 through our Benevolent Care Program to qualifying Residents. In addition, last year, 57% of the Residents in Saint Mary's Skilled Nursing Facilities were eligible for government subsidies. The unfunded cost of care (the amount not covered by any form of subsidies) has risen to $2 million.
Restricted Gifts
If you have an area of interest to which you would like to restrict your gift, our restricted funds are listed below. Please contact the Development Office if you would like to designate your gift to an area of interest that is not listed below.
- Benevolent Care Fund
- The Gallagher Center
- Saint Mary's East
- Saint Mary's at Asbury Ridge
Capital/Major Giving
We are nearing completion of the new construction and major renovation of the Skilled Nursing Facility at Saint Mary’s East.
This renovation redefines nursing care as we know it, by providing a home-like environment that includes many features to promote privacy, dignity and foster independence of our Residents.
Saint Mary's is offering a number of naming opportunities that provide a special way for you to be part of our 125th Anniversary capital project. Whether you choose to put your name or the name of someone special on a building project, you are creating a tangible legacy of your personal connection to Saint Mary's and its Mission – a valuable gift indeed.

To learn more about naming opportunities please contact Kim McCaslin in the Development Office.
Planned Giving
Planned Giving provides you with several options and opportunities to include support of Saint Mary's in your overall financial and estate plans. Planned gifts are generally gifts or commitments made in the present with the benefit to Saint Mary's "deferred" until a future date.
We realize that, as you consider a planned gift to Saint Mary's, you must balance your family's needs, your personal lifestyle, and your financial resources with your desire to contribute to the needs of our seniors today and in the future.
