2017 Ageless Remarkable Erieite Honorees

William Bloomstine, Donna Geiger and James and Mary Ann Toohey, were honored with an Ageless Remarkable Erieite Award on Thursday, September 14th, during the 2017 Saint Mary's Follies. The Ageless Remarkable Erieite Award recognizes seniors age 75 and older who have remained active in our Erie community, sharing their gifts and talents in selfless service to others. Honorees have a zest for life that is contagious and serve as an inspiration for all who call Erie home.

William Bloomstine

William Bloomstine has been an active community member and leader for many years. After graduating from John Carroll University and marrying his wife Carol, Bill served in the military as a Training Officer at the Army Transportation School in Virginia. He was released from the Army after his father passed away and returned to Erie to lead the family business, Insurance Management Company, which is now run by 3 of his 4 children. In addition to his many professional accreditations, Bill is a charter member of the Serra Club of Erie and is also active with the Rotary Club of Erie. Bill has also performed multiple stewardship presentations on behalf of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie. He has been active with and has served on the board and advisory councils of many organizations including Boy Scouts of America French Creek Council, the City of Erie, the Children’s Welfare Association, Saint Vincent Health System and Saint Mary’s Home of Erie. A generous and modest individual, Bill continues to dedicate himself to the Erie community and beyond.

Donna Geiger

Donna Geiger has spent much of her life volunteering and helping those in the community. Donna married the late Jack Geiger and together they had six children, one of whom passed away as a young boy. She has actively volunteered at the Caring Place for the past 15 years, where she helps offer support to grieving children, adolescents, and their families. She volunteered for a number of years at The Hotline, providing support through an answering service during the night hours for people in need and in serious situations. Donna is a Sister of St. Joseph Associate and a founding member of Saint Jude Parish, where she also volunteers as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Saint Patrick’s Haven and enjoys volunteering her time there as a visitor as well. In the past, she has helped aid the work of the Hospice of Metropolitan Erie, has helped serve home cooked meals for children through Sister Guss’s Kids Café, and has also served on many local Boards including Cathedral Prep and Villa Maria Academy. After her marriage to Norman Stark last year, Donna also manages to find time for their combined 36 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Donna is enthusiastic yet humble, and her work in our community has impacted the lives of countless individuals.

James and Mary Ann Toohey

James and Mary Ann Toohey have both given a large part of their time over the years to numerous Erie organizations. An Attorney at Quinn Law Firm, Jim was named Chancellor of the Bar in 2014.
